   Honor society holds fall induction

The Guillot University Center was packed Wednesday, December 7th, as 130 University of North Alabama students became members of the National Society of Leadership and Success. “This is a place for our members to join with other student leaders on campus in successful networking as they work to achieve their goals,” said Co-Adviser and Admissions Counselor Bishop Alexander. “It’s really an honor to be inducted into such a society,” said sophomore and inductee Grant Gunn. “It looks good on a resume, (and) it opens doors for other things.”

On Thursday December 8th, 39 students were inducted into the newly established Society chapter at Clarks Summit University. Earlier this fall, CSU launched its NSLS chapter on campus, led by senior elementary education major Anthony Vincent. In its first year, the CSU Society chapter has become the largest student-led organization on campus. With 73 percent of nominees inducted this semester, CSU’s chapter of NSLS has the highest completion rate in the nation, among 545 college and universities. “When Anthony Vincent came to me with this idea, he had a clear vision and built a strong executive team that has laid out this vision with the help of the NSLS to deliver this elite leadership training to our campus,” explains Fred Defendorf, coordinator of student life.

   Student to join honor society at Ivy Tech

The Society chapter at Ivy Tech Community College Columbus inducted 18 new members on Friday. The induction of the new members brings the society’s total inducted membership to 141.

In the upcoming spring semester, Utah State University will open its own Society chapter. It began with Nathan Cutler, an undergraduate student at USU. While looking online for careers and ways to be involved, Cutler came across the NSLS. From the beginning it seemed a perfect fit. “I’ve been really invested in books like Stephen Covey’s ‘Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.’ I love success, I love the idea of becoming successful,” Cutler said.

   SIGMA ALPHA PI TO HOST DIY EVENT

Today at 6PM the Society chapter at Stevenson University is hosting a “do it yourself” (DIY) hot chocolate making event that is sure to warm up Stevenson students. The event is called “Warm Up Your Winter” and it is a way for students to meet new people, show off their creativity and de-stress. Sarah Cullison, a member of the society, said that the group wants this event to be a fun DIY activity for students to warm up their winters.

Society member Carla Butcher, of the Society chapter at DeVry University of San Diego, signs publishing deal with CelebrityPress® to co-author new book Carla Butcher will team up with several of the premier business minds of our time to release the new book, Cracking the Code to Success by CelebrityPress®. Cracking the Code to Success is tentatively scheduled for release in early 2017. A portion of the royalties earned from Cracking the Code to Success will be donated to Entrepreneur’s International Foundation, a not for profit organization dedicated to creating unique launch campaigns to raise money and awareness for charitable causes.

Society members Michelle Hanes, John Rafferty and Bryan Shell of the Society chapter at Jacksonville University (JU) named to Advantage Business Magazine's "Top 40 Business Students 2016.The annual article highlights the highest performing students of 2016, as the "Top 40" approach graduation from North Florida’s premier private business school, the Davis College of Business.
 
Michelle Hanes
Major: Accounting and Finance
"Hanes has put all of her time and devotion into school and to make sure she gets the best possible grades she can while learning as much as possible. She also stays as actively involved in JU clubs and groups as possible. She is the finance sector and alumni manager for the Dolphin Student Investment Fund."
 
John Rafferty
Major: Business Management
"Rafferty has excelled in class while working full-time and raising two young children. He is dedicated to helping others achieve success and believes in the importance of getting a degree. He strives to be a role model for those at work who think it is too late to go back to school."
 
Bryan Shell
Major: Finance and Business Management
"Shell strives to achieve a great academic record—he has made the President’s list the previous three consecutive semesters and Dean’s list previously—but he also appreciates and values the information learned through the process. He is extremely focused and driven to achieve his aspirations and to establish a great network. A recent professor provided a recommendation on his behalf, recognizing that Shell demonstrates unsurpassable motivation and work ethic and ranked in the top 1 percent of the class."

   Barchett Named Student Laureate

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner announced Society member, Charles J. Barchett of the Society chapter at Bradley University as one of the 2016 outstanding college students honored by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. The Academy recognized Barchett during the annual Student Laureate Convocation Saturday, November 12 at the Old State Capitol in Springfield.

   Andy Cohen to be Featured on Livestream

The Society chapter at Sam Houston State University is set to stream a live video broadcast with Andy Cohen, Host and Executive Producer of “Watch What Happens: Live.” Tonight, Cohen will be speaking at New Jersey City University, and through SHSU’s NSLS Chapter, students will have the opportunity to listen in to Cohen’s words. In this livestream, Cohen will focus on building a personal brand, landing your dream job, and other real-life obstacles people can have in their professional lives. Cohen is a radio and talk show host, author and producer. After serving more than 10 years as the head of development at Bravo, Cohen stepped down in 2013. Cohen also received an Emmy Award in 2010 as the Executive Producer of Top Chef.
