   Sigma Alpha Pi Shares a Cultural Exchange

For the first time ever, the Society chapter at Texas A&M University-Commerce provided several international students with the cultural experience of going through a “boot camp” version of its semester-long leadership training program. Over the last few weeks, the chapter has been working with 19 students from Namseoul University, Korea, to lay the groundwork to become members of the nationally recognized organization.

Victoria Del Rio, member of the Society chapter at Waubonsee Community College, was recently selected as the state recipient for a Society State of Mind Scholarship, which recognizes her work in the community. She received the $1,000 scholarship, which is awarded to one member from every state who, within the previous academic year, initiated a program or event or participated in a significant project or campaign that positively impacted their community.

Sportscaster Curt Menefee is the featured speaker during a live broadcast that will be aired Tuesday, February 21, from 7 to 8:30 pm in Room 202, Backels Hall, on the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Clifton Forge campus, and also in Room 908, at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista. This is one of several live broadcast events sponsored this school year by the DSLCC Chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success.

The Valdosta State University chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi: The National Society of Leadership and Success will present a live speaker broadcast featuring Curt Menefee at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Hugh C. Bailey Science Center Auditorium 1011. During his presentation, which will be live streamed from the New York Institute of Technology in New York, N.Y., Menefee will share the hidden lessons behind the toughest losses in sports history, his observations on turning failure into success, and the importance of being resilient in the face of adversity. He will also discuss his three-step plan for career success — work hard, be passionate, and enjoy life.

A live broadcast featuring entrepreneur and “Shark Tank” celebrity Barbara Corcoran will be aired Tuesday, February 7, beginning at 7 pm in Room 202, Backels Hall, on the Dabney S. The Society chapter at Ivy Tech Community College will host a live broadcast event featuring a “shark” from the popular television show “Shark Tank.” Barbara Corcoran will be one of the participants. She is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, investor and part of the show “Shark Tank.” She has built a $5 billion real estate empire and invested in more than 25 entrepreneurs. Corcoran will share her personal business experiences and offer coaching for others to better identify successful opportunities for themselves.

The National Society of Leadership and Success announces its spring lineup of speakers for 2017. “The lineup for the spring of 2017 is one we are very excited about and we believe you will be too,” ENMU-Ruidoso Student Success Coordinator Daniel Waldo said. “The theme of our spring 2017 lineup is ‘Call to action to serve communities!’ and each of the four speakers has in some way been successful in serving their communities and surrounding areas." “Speaker broadcasts are a way for our members to build leadership skills by watching interviews of successful celebrity leaders,” said Waldo. “This is something we believe is very important to developing leadership."
