Award-Winning Journalist Dan Harris is NSLS Guest Speaker at NJCU

Dan Harris, Emmy Award winning co-anchor of ABC's "Nightline" and "Good Morning America" weekend edition, will speak at New Jersey City University on Tuesday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. The free lecture is part of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) Broadcast Speaker Series at New Jersey City University, which offers inspiring stories of success and actionable steps in leadership. Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, will be featured in the Series on Tuesday, March 17.
Society Member Receives Torrance Chamber’s Inspirational Spirit Award

James Harris, a 22-year-old sophomore at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), was honored with the Inspirational Spirit Award during the 18th Annual Black History Celebration luncheon. Harris received the honors for his involvement with the Male Success Alliance (MSA), a student success initiative focused on improving the educational outcomes of young men of color at CSUDH and in the communities served by the university. Harris mentored and supported a young student from Bethune Middle School in Los Angeles, who was involved in a gang and failing his classes. He now earns straight A's In addition to his MSA duties Harris is the secretary of the Black Student Union, commissioner of student activities for Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), and the treasurer for the National Society of Leadership and Success chapter on his campus.
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Establishes Society Chapter to Great Success

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College was the first school in North California to establish a chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success on campus Today, more than 20 additional community colleges in North Carolina have followed suit. “College is about more than just classes and papers and exams. There is an enormous amount of learning that occurs outside of the classroom in the extracurricular programs we offer,” said Natasha Lipscomb, director of student life and leadership development at Rowan-Cabarrus. Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus, added; “We believe that our ever-expanding set of extracurricular activities and communications creates a holistic student experience, developing well-rounded graduates...It's all about developing leaders and helping them engage in their community.”

Society Member and College of Southern Maryland Student Government Association President meets with state legislators

Society Member and College of Southern Maryland Student Government Association President Heather Murphy met with state legislators in Annapolis during the Maryland Association of Community College (MACC) Advocacy Day on Feb. 11. Murphy is a mother of two who returned to college after 17 years of work when she found herself unemployed and dependent on welfare. Today she is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for community college students. She became involved in advocating for her fellow classmates and is now the president of the Student Government Association.

Society Member Dr. Tony Cummings is a candidate for the Sheriff position at Jacksonville, Florida. With 25 years of law enforcement experience, he also holds a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a graduate degree in Organizational Management and undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Criminal Justice. Additionally, he is certified in Education Leadership (All Levels). Dr. Cummings served in the United States Army Military Police between 1989-1994, honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He briefly served in the U.S. State Department before joining the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) as first a patrolman and later a detective. Dr. Cummings also worked as an adjunct professor at Keiser University, in their Crime Scene Technology (CST) program.
Coweta Native Selected for Membership in Sigma Alpha Pi

John Wells of Coweta has been selected for membership in Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Sigma Alpha Pi is a leadership honor society available to a limited number of students on campus. The Oklahoma Wesleyan University chapter was founded in 2014 and now has 93 members. Wells was selected based on his academic accomplishment and leadership potential. Membership will provide the Cowetan with professional leadership training needed to gain a competitive edge in the employment market. Wells is a 2014 graduate of Coweta High School and is attending OkWU in Bartlesville on a baseball scholarship.

Consultant Debbie Norton joined Arxis Technology's Implementations Team and will focus on helping clients use Intacct to solve their accounting concerns. Norton recently graduated with honors with a degree in Accounting from California State University Northridge and is now a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. “I come from a family of accountants, so I’m really looking forward to using my accounting background in a unique way to help businesses make the most of their Intacct implementations,” Norton said. Arxis Technology, Inc. is a technology consulting firm specializing in the sale, installation and support of Intacct Cloud Financials, Adaptive Insights, Sage 100 ERP (formerly MAS 90), Sage 300 ERP (formerly Accpac), Sage 500 ERP (formerly MAS 500), and SageCRM.
Motivational Mondays speaker signs book at Ridgeview Library

Hickory native Chad Bumgarner held a book signing of his new book “Chad’s Playbook to Effective Leadership” at the Ridgeview Library in Hickory, NC. He is a public/motivational speaker, author, and leadership and team-building consultant. He has been the featured speaker for the National Society of Leadership and Success' Motivational Monday segment.
The Society at Nashville State Community College

The National Society of Leadership and Success established its charter on the Nashville State Campus in 2008. Since then the NSLS has been one of the premier and fastest-growing honor societies on campus. The NSCC chapter works hard to encompass the values of the NSLS by setting a high standard for the students invited to join. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in order to be considered.
