   NSLS chapter induction ceremony at KC

On Thursday, April 30, 2015 the Society chapter at Kishwaukee held an induction ceremony. Among the honored were 23 new inductees with eight of them recognized for earning the National Engaged Leadership Award (NELA).  The chapter awarded Honorary Memberships to Nancy Partch, Dean of Student Services, SyLinda Menafee (former) Coordinator of Retention and Student Success, and Allison Von Ende, Coordinator of Student Activities. Among the recognized in the ceremony were also the recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award and the Excellence in Service to Students Award.

   Local Chapter Organizing 5K run to Raise Sexual Assault Awareness

The Society chapter at Central Community College in collaboration with Center for Survivors (Columbus) hosted the 1st Annual No More 5K/1 mile Fun Run. Chapter President Colby Kubik discusses the event and talks about how the chapter wanted to do something big in their first year of existence.The event took place on Sunday, April 26th, and half of the proceeds went to victims of sexual and domestic assault.

“I was very surprised when I got an invitation. I was immediately interested in what the organization was about and how it could better develop me as a leader and future nurse. I enrolled in the Society, but I wanted to do much more than just be a member. When Bethany Piraino (the pioneer of bringing this organization to campus) emailed all the pre-members about the executive board positions, I knew I wanted to be further involved.” –Grace Pfeifer

On April 17th, 2015, the Society Chapter at Adams State University honored upcoming graduates as well as 44 new inductees. Keynote speaker Vice President of Student Affairs Ken Marquez, delivered an encouraging and powerful message about leadership and the importance of staying positive.

"Leadership is passion and knowing who you are and where you come from. Swallow your pride and do not hold a grudge," said Marquez.

The Society chapter at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania held its second induction ceremony on April 22, 2015, at Carnegie Hall in Thornbury, Pennsylvania. In addition to the 19 new inductees honored at the ceremony, several awards were also presented including the Excellence in Teaching Award, the Honorary Membership Award and the Excellence in Service to Students Award.

Society member Alyssa Phillips of the Valley City State University Chapter is learning to ‘Thrive’ and tells her story in her first article with the Huffington Post.

“I had big thoughts but I could never really get to them because of the task of living day to day. I joined the National Society for Leadership and Success because I had big thoughts and I figured why not. It was just another thing that filled my day. The speakers had good messages but not a single one spoke to me until Arianna Huffington started to speak about Thrive,” said Phillips.

Sigma Alpha Pi got its start on the Texas A&M University – Commerce campus in 2012 and has quickly become the largest organization on campus. The hard work and dedication exhibited by the students involved in the society led to the organization winning New Student Organization of the Year in 2013. The Chapter’s next Speakers Broadcast, which takes place on October 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Ferguson Auditorium, will give student the opportunity to hear Al Roker’s journey to success.

The Society Chapter at Kansas State University recently inducted 103 members bringing its total inducted membership to 126.

"We’re very proud of our members," said Minh Mac, executive board member. "The society has had a significant impact on our campus, inspiring our students to become better leaders, and helping them build a better future for themselves, the campus and their respective communities.

Former Texas A&M Lion football team captain, Taylor Peasha, named Co-President of A&M-Commerce’s Society chapter.

“He said he wanted to give back and help. Ultimately, we had what he wanted and he had what we wanted, so we asked him to take on the most important leadership role we had – the role of president,” said Dr. Shonda Gibson, the Executive Director of Global Learning and the Quality Enhancement Planning Associate Chair.

Society member Ihsan Alqaraghuli and HCC Southwest chapter advisor Dr. Pamela Bilton share their NSLS success stories in this video created by Houston Community College.

“This chapter is teaching me how to prioritize my goals and how to organize my time according to things I want to do,” Alqaraghuli said.

“It allows them to set goals,” Dr. Bilton-Beard said. “They meet with their networking team, and they are actually able to create smart goals.”
